Sheffield Magistrates’ Court heard on January 9 how Steven McGuiness, 36, had become frustrated about traffic in Sheffield and as his partner tried to get out of his vehicle he pulled her back by her hair.

Matthew Duffy, prosecuting, said McGuiness’s partner wanted to leave as he was getting upset on December 16 and he pulled her back by her hair as she tried to leave.

McGuiness, of Hadfield Road, Glossop, who has no previous convictions, admitted committing the assault after a witness reported the offence.

Helen Toyne, defending, said McGuiness’s partner, of Sheffield, does not support the prosecution because she had allegedly assaulted him first during the dispute.

Magistrates sentenced McGuiness to a 12-month conditional discharge but warned if he commits another offence in 12-months he will be re-sentenced.

McGuiness must pay a £21 victim surcharge and £85 costs.
