‘RIP Rami’: Friends pay tribute to Sheffield man, 20, with ‘long life ahead of him’

Tributes have been paid to a man shot dead in Sheffield in one of two murders in the city in 24 hours.

The man named locally as Ramey Ghalib, was shot in a property on Grimesthorpe Road South, Burngreave, in the early hours of yesterday.

South Yorkshire Police said Yorkshire Ambulance Service notified the force of a report of a shooting but when paramedics arrived at the crime scene, the 20-year-old victim had already been taken to hospital.

He could not be saved and was pronounced dead a short time later.

No arrests have yet been made over the killing, which is being treated as a targeted attack.

Just less than 24 hours before, 28-year-old Kamran Khan was stabbed to death in an attack in Club Garden Road, Highfield.

A 30-year-old man is being held by police on suspicion of murder over that attack.

The murders are not being linked by detectives.

Paying tribute to gunshot victim Ramey in Instgram posts, a close friend said: “Words can’t explain how I feel right now. Constantly going to be in my duas.”

He added: “My bro Ramzy, you had a long life ahead of you.”

In another post, he said: “I love you so much. Rest in peace my brother. You will be remembered by all of us. We are going to miss you so much.”

Posting on Facebook, friend Rhianna Georgía-Rosa said: “Rest in perfect peace Ramz, I still cannot believe this.”

Also posting on Facebook,Mohammed Cristiano Alshaby said: “RIP Rami. Great lad who is loved by everyone.”

Lisa Dernie posted: “So sad, sending condolences to all the family and friends. Lovely lad.”

Ramey has been described as ‘always happy’ and ‘always making others smile’.

A friend said: “There wasn’t a time when he wasn’t smiling or making a joke.”

Over £2,300 had been raised in memory of Ramey via the Go Fund Me online crowdfunding page.

The donations are to be used to build a water well in a community in need.
