The court heard he left with others and got a taxi and was traced by CCTV and was found by police.

Mrs Wright added the victim has not given a statement and not co-operated with police but he did have his injures photographed including cuts to his face and behind an ear.

Amy Earnshaw, defending, claimed that Holdsworth was told the man had made threats to his group and he was worried the man might have a weapon and might stab them.

Mrs Wright said the CPS cannot currently accept the claim because it had not been mentioned during the defendant’s interview or at the time of the incident.

Recorder Kama Melly QC adjourned the case until March 24 to establish if there can be an accepted basis of plea regarding the victim making alleged threats.
