Residents urged to step up security to deter thieves

Police are warning Derbyshire residents to step up their garden, shed and garage security to avoid them being targeted by thieves.

A Derbyshire Police spokeswoman said: “With the winter months slowly becoming a distant memory and spring approaching, it may be time to think about digging out your tools and turning your attention to the garden now that the weather is improving.

“Many people store their gardening equipment, tools, bikes and BBQs in their shed and, unfortunately, this means that these outbuildings are often seen as an easy target by thieves.

“Fit a good quality lock to secure your shed, garage or outbuilding and make sure that it is appropriate to the strength of the door and frame and consider purchasing a shed alarm.”
