A COMMUNITY Speed Watch scheme is being set up in North Derbyshire to help improve road safety.
Residents in Glapwell, Bramley Vale and Doe Lea are invited to join the group, which will involve locals and police officers monitoring the speed of traffic.
Checks take place on roads in villages where the limit is 30 or 40mph and volunteers note the registration numbers of any vehicles travelling too fast.
A letter is then sent to those drivers found breaking the limit, advising them about the check and warning if they continue to speed, they risk prosecution.
PC Tony Bagshaw, of the Pleasley safer neighbourhood policing team, said: “Residents have told us speeding is a concern and Community Speed Watch is one of the ways we can target the issue.
