Residents evacuated and explosive disposal team on Sheffield street

Residents of Selly Oak Road in Jordanthorpe have been evacuated form their homes as an ‘explosive disposal team’ attends a property where police have seized ‘suspicious items’.

Residents have said that they have been told to leave their homes and “not come back until later this evening”.

A statement from South Yorkshire Police said: “Police have recovered a number of suspicious items during a warrant executed at an address on Selly Oak Road in Jordanthorpe this morning (March 18).

“The Army’s EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) team is currently at the scene to establish any potential risk with the items.

“A cordon is in place and a number of residents have been evacuated from their homes as a precautionary measure.

“An investigation has been launched and an 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of preparation of explosives and being in possession of prohibited items.”
