Residents were evacuated from some homes near to a lorry yard in Barnsley after a blaze this morning.

The fire on Higham Lane, Higham, was discovered just after midnight and when crews arrived they found a lorry engulfed in flames.

The flames had also spread to a nearby trailer and a car.

Residents in nearby homes were evacuated on safety grounds because of a number of small explosions involving fuel tanks.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

This morning firefighters also dealt with a Volkswagen Golf found burning on Skye Edge Road, Skye Edge, Sheffield.

The car had been deliberately set alight.

Last night crews tackled a bin fire in a park on Middlewood Rise, Middlewood and a hedge and settee found burning on Ledger Way, Wheatley Hills, Doncaster.

A pile of rubbish was set alight in a derelict residential care home on Vernon Road, Worsbrough, Barnsley, last night.
