Recovering drug-addict is given a chance after stealing toiletries

A recovering drug-addict who stole toiletries has been given a chance to turn his life around.

Nigel Robert Innocent, 53, of Beaumont Crescent, near the Manor, Sheffield, was captured on CCTV, according to a Sheffield Magistrates’ Court hearing, stealing £60 worth of Lynx toiletries stock from Savers, in Sheffield.

Matthew Duffy, prosecuting, told the hearing on January 9 Innocent, who has previous convictions, was identified by police from CCTV showing him taking the products and leaving without paying.

Innocent pleaded guilty to the theft which happened on September 30.

Helen Toyne, defending, said Innocent has had a drug problem but he is now getting support and he is on a methadone prescription and hopes to undergo a detox process soon.

Magistrates sentenced Innocent to a 12-month conditional discharge which means he can be re-sentenced for the theft if he commits another offence in the next year.

Innocent must pay £60 compensation and £45 costs.
