The offensive markings were reportedly left on litter bins beside bus stops on High Storrs Road, close to High Storrs School and Ecclesall Primary School.

They were reported yesterday evening via Twitter to Sheffield Council’s Streets Ahead team, which is responsible for maintaining roads and pavements across the city.

Olivia Blake, the newly elected Labour MP for Sheffield Hallam, thanked her for highlighting the incident, which she said she would report ‘straight away’.

Liberal Democrat councillor Shaffaq Mohammed said he had also reported the matter immediately.

“This is not acceptable anywhere, particularly outside schools,” he added.
