Prolific shoplifter pleads guilty to 44 thefts in Rotherham after police wanted appeal
“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and has a huge impact on our economy, and businesses”
A wanted man who evaded police for a month while robbing numerous shops in Rotherham has been put behind bars.
Christopher Howell was arrested on August 26, and just two days later pleaded guilty to 44 offences of theft from shops.

South Yorkshire Police had previously put out a wanted appeal for the 41-year-old on August 17, saying that he had robbed more than 20 businesses since June 21.
Howell, of Millfold Rise in Rotherham, has now been jailed for 13 months.
Chief Inspector Kay Fitzgerald said: “Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and has a huge impact on our economy, and businesses.
“Howell will now face time in prison for his actions which saw him prolifically target shops and stores within the Rotherham area.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public. Following our appeal we had numerous calls into our control room. Your support helps us make Rotherham a better place to live and work.”
