‘Problem pub’ closure after landlord hands over licence

The landlord of a Sheffield pub at the centre of concerns about underage drinking, drugs and violence has surrendered his licence.

Sheffield Council’s licensing board had been due to hold a review of whether the Parson Cross Hotel should be allowed to continue trading yesterday after receiving reports from South Yorkshire Police.

But a council spokesman said: “The licensee has surrendered his licence without giving a reason, so the pub is closed until further notice.”

The review meeting did not go ahead.

Police complained of drug dealing and incidents, including a group of drunken Owls fans, some with banning orders, congregating at the pub before travelling to a game and reports that men with guns went inside the pub before smashing car windows.
