AN investigation is underway today into the cause of a fire which destroyed a garage close to the house where a man was gunned down on his doorstep last week.

Firefighters were alerted to the blaze on Doncaster Road, Wath-upon-Dearne, at 4.35am today and said they found a domestic garage in a row of three engulfed in flames.

The garage was destroyed but firefighters managed to save the others.

Police blocked off the road while firefighters extinguished the blaze.

It is not yet known whether the fire is linked to the shooting of 42-year-old Tyrone Woodhead, who was shot in his upper body when he opened the door to his home on Thursday night.

The armed gunman responsible for the attack is still on the run today.

Mr Woodhead, a married father-of-one, who works as a delivery driver for a local building supplies firm, is still fighting for his life in hospital.
