Snooker’s world governing body is investigating ‘unusual betting’ on a match at Barnsley Metrodome this week.

The match on Wednesday, between Scotland’s Jamie Burnett and Irish amateur John Sutton, saw Burnett win 6-0 in a qualifying match for the lucrative International Championship tournament, which takes place in China between October 26 and November 2.

The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association has not indicated the nature of its investigation but has confirmed it was prompted by information provided by the betting industry.

A spokesman said: “Together with the sports betting intelligence unit at the Gambling Commission we are analysing the available information on this match.”
