Barra Organics, on Sharrow Vale Road, had to shut its operations after bricks, which appeared to be part of a wall, were smashed through its door window.

Owner Moya Sketchley said she first found out about the incident after the neighbour alerted her when the alarm went off at around 7.30am.

But she said it did not appear to be an attempted burglary.

“I’m not sure what it was, I kept thinking, why would anyone do that?.

“It was not really obvious where that (the bricks) came from, not sure if they walked along with it and decided to throw it. We just can’t work it out,” she said.

She said there also seemed to be no attempts of breaking in, although the perpetrators could have easily done so with the damage they caused.

“But what would they run off with, fruits and vege? Why would they target us, really? Maybe it was the golden beetroot we put out by the window,” she laughed.

She said the police are already investigating the matter and the shop will reopen on Saturday (December 14).

“We are closing for the day until we can secure the door and cleaning up to make sure there’s no glass everywhere,” she said.

When contacted, the South Yorkshire Police said: “Police were called at 7.30am this morning (Friday 13 December) following reports of criminal damage at a business premises in Sheffield.

“Persons unknown are reported to have thrown bricks through the door window, causing damage.

“It is not thought that anyone attempted to gain entry to the business. Enquiries are ongoing.”
