Police watchdog has not received formal complaint over spying allegations around Hillsborough families

The police watchdog will pursue concerns that families of the victims of the Hillsborough disaster were spied on – if evidence emerges.

Home Secretary Theresa May said the Independent Police Complaints Commission had received no formal complaint but was aware of concerns which have been voiced.

Mrs May said: “If they discover any evidence in their investigation that suggests surveillance may have taken place of the sort that’s been suggested then they will of course pursue that evidence.”
