In a statement issued by South Yorkshire Police today, the force said that a police officer who attempted to help the Skoda driver after the crash was ‘assaulted’ and a Taser was then deployed.

It is not known whether the Taser hit the motorist but he managed to flee the scene and is still on the run today.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Despite fearing serious injuries, the officer has attempted to help the driver of the Skoda, but has been assaulted and deployed Taser.

“The driver has then made good his escape.

“Fortunately, we have lines of enquiry to identify him.”
