Police to drive down collisions

A police operation aimed at driving down motorcycling accidents has been launched.

Operation Focus will run until September and involves police patrolling on roads in Derbyshire where collisions are most common, including the A57 Snake Pass.

Chief Inspector Steve Wilson, said: “We don’t want bikers to be caught out. We want them to come to our county and enjoy our roads but do so sensibly and safely.

“Motorcyclists continue to be over represented in the casualty figures and too many riders are becoming involved in serious collisions.”

Andy Adlington, of the Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership, said: “In 2012, fewer motorcyclists were killed or seriously injured on our roads than during the previous year, but we know we’ve still got work to do.”
