Police send urgent message to Sheffield after ‘tragic and untimely death’ of young student

Isaiah Usen-Satchell, aged 18, was knifed in an attack in St Aiden’s Road, Norfolk Park, at around 4.20am on Wednesday, January 1 during a fight between a group of men.

Four Rotherham men, aged 18 – 22, were arrested on suspicion of murder and remain on police bail.

A fifth man, aged 27 and also from Rotherham, who was also arrested on suspicion of murder, has since been released with no further action to be taken.

Detective Chief Inspector Jude Ashmore, leading the murder probe, said: “On arrival at the scene, our officers found Mr Usen-Satchell laid in the road, with serious injuries to his arms. He was taken to hospital, where he sadly died a short time later. A post mortem concluded he died of a slash wound to his wrist.

“We are continuing to piece together what happened in the early hours of New Year’s Day and would like people living in the Norfolk Park area, particularly those living near St Aiden’s Road, to think back to that morning.

“We responded to reports of a fight between a group of men, did you witness this altercation?

“Were you coming home after seeing in the New Year? Did you notice anything unusual happening? Did you see any vehicles that were out of place, or see anybody acting suspiciously? Did you hear any shouting or disturbances taking place?

“Information like this might seem small or insignificant but it could help us fill in any gaps in our timeline.”

DCI Ashmore added: “At the heart of this investigation is a devastated family; a mother, a father and a sister who have been left heartbroken.

“The ripples have also spread wider, into a community which has been deeply affected by what is undoubtedly the tragic and untimely death of a young man.

“Mr Usen-Satchell’s family members are in our minds as we continue our investigation and I urge anyone with information to also think of them, please speak to us, please share any information you might have.”Call 101 and quoting incident 458 of January 1.
