Mr Ramsay died from a stab wound “following an altercation in the street” in the early hours of Saturday (8 August), police said. Officers were initially called to “large scale disorder" on Horninglow Road at 12.20am before being alerted to Mr Ramsay’s condition. He died shortly after arriving at the Northern General Hospital.

Emergency services, including ambulance staff, were met with “physical obstructions and hostile crowds” in their efforts to reach Ramsay and three other injured men, police added. A crowd of around 100 people were gathered at the scene and the father-of-two was given emergency medical assistance from a specially trained police officer while additional resources worked to clear a route for waiting ambulance crews.

Temporary detective chief inspector Mark Oughton said: “We know that some of those who were close by at the time of Mr Ramsay’s death had attended a rave in Concord Park earlier on Friday evening.

“Mobile phone footage of crowds at either location will greatly assist our efforts as we work to build up a picture of people’s movements from Friday in to Saturday. I need to understand how the evening unfolded in order to ascertain who was present and what exactly led to Mr Ramsay’s death.”

The other injured men, all aged 24, received hospital treatment but have since been discharged.

T/DCI Oughton added: “I appreciate the incident will have been distressing to witnesses, and not everyone is comfortable sharing information with police, but please know that we now have a way for you to do this anonymously.
