They want Arbourthorne residents to check their CCTV cameras and motorists to look at dashcam footage captured on Sunday, January 12.

A 12-year-old boy was injured in a drive-by shooting on Northern Avenue, Arbourthorne, in what is alleged to have been a dispute between rival gangs.

Although one man has been charged and other arrests have been made, detectives are still working on the case and piecing together the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

In a new appeal for information, South Yorkshire Police said: “As investigations into a shooting of a 12-year-old boy in the Arbourthorne area of Sheffield continue, detectives are appealing for information from members of the public.

“Emergency services were called to Northern Avenue at around 3.45pm on Sunday, January 12, where the boy was found with a gunshot wound to his leg. He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

“Officers are working hard to build a clear picture of the facts and are renewing their appeal for any witnesses, CCTV or dashcam footage from the day.”

Last night, residents, police officers and politicians attended a public meeting on the Arbourthorne estate to discuss the shooting, other crime and violence and what is being done about it.

Sheffield’s District Commander, Chief Superintendent Stuart Barton, attended the event along with South Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner, Dr Alan Billings.

Stephen Dunford, 25, of Fellbrigg Road, Arbourthorne, has been remanded in custody over the shooting after being charged with attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

A trial date for July 6 has been set.
