There have been a series of shootings, including three last month in 24 hours.

Guns were fired in Machon Bank and nearby Glen Road, both in Nether Edge, with windows smashed in both incidents.

A dog was then shot in nearby Abbeydale Road.

Two months earlier, rival groups opened fire at each other in Machon Bank and a house window was shot in nearby Union Street.

A 53-year-old man was also shot in Club Garden Road, Sharrow.

In an update to yesterday’s incident, South Yorkshire Police said: “Following recent incidents nearby which are believed to be linked to organised crime, police cordoned off the area immediately in order to establish whether this incident was linked.

“As a result of our enquiries, it is not believed that firearms were involved.

“Anything suspicious in the area will continue to be treated very seriously as we work to provide reassurance to residents and disrupt any criminal activity.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
