Police reveal why plane was circling over Sheffield

Police have revealed why a plane was out over Sheffield last night helping officers on the ground.

One of the National Police Air Service’s new fleet of black-and-white planes was seen doing laps over the Jordanthorpe area of the city on Thursday, May 7, at around 9pm.

South Yorkshire Police says it was called to help with a search after a car failed to stop for officers.

A spokeswoman for the force said: “Shortly before 9pm last night, it’s reported that a vehicle failed-to-stop in the Jordanthorpe area of Sheffield.

“Following a short pursuit, the car was abandoned in Lowedges Crescent.

“Two men left the vehicle and fled on foot. Despite a search to find them, the two have not yet been located. The vehicle has been seized by officers.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call 101, quoting incident 943 of May 7.”
