Two men arrested on suspicion of the murder of a man not seen for more than four years have been released without charge.

The men, one aged 24 and the other 58, both from Bentley, Doncaster, were arrested in March 2013 and bailed pending further inquiries.

But South Yorkshire Police yesterday announced that they had been released from bail without any further action taken.

They were quizzed by police over the disappearance of 54-year-old Irishman Thomas Groome, who was last seen on New Year’s Day 2010.

Mr Groome had spent Christmas in Barnsley before going to Doncaster for New Year celebrations.

He left his son’s house in Thorne on January 1 and his family understood he was due to travel to Portugal, where he hoped to set up a small business.

However, relatives were unable to contact him over the next few months and reported him missing to South Yorkshire Police and the authorities in Portugal.

Three people now remain on police bail.

They are a 37-year-old man from Wheatley, a 33-year-old woman from Wheatley and a 56-year-old woman from Doncaster.
