Police release picture of Sheffield drug-offender who was linked to heroin and crack-cocaine by his DNA

A drug-offender has been jailed after his DNA was linked by police to packages of heroin and crack-cocaine.

Sheffield Crown Court heard on December 15 how Ali Abdulkader, aged 21, of Verdon Street, Burngreave, Sheffield, was linked to the drugs after police raided a home on Buckenham Street, Burngreave, Sheffield, and recovered heroin and crack-cocaine from a Honda Civic parked at the property.

Mehran Nassiri, prosecuting, said: “At 8.30am, on September 24, 2018, police officers executed a search warrant at Buckenham Street, Sheffield, and forced their way in.”

Police seized a key to the Honda Civic and found crack-cocaine and wraps of diamorphine, known as heroin, and the packages had traces of Abdulkader’s DNA, according to Mr Nassiri.

Mr Nassiri said Abdulkader was spotted by police on Ellesmere Road, Burngreave, on October 4, and he fled into a garden but was caught and found with heroin and crack-cocaine with more of his DNA on the packaging.

Police also recovered a mobile phone with messages indicative of drug-dealing, according to Mr Nassiri.

Abdulkader admitted possessing diamorphine with intent to supply and possessing crack cocaine with intent to supply from September 24, 2018, and admitted possessing diamorphine with intent to supply and possessing crack-cocaine with intent to supply from October 4, 2018.

Tim Gaubert, defending, said: “He had accumulated a significant drug-debt from smoking cannabis and his involvement in relation to all the events of September 24, 2019, and October, 2019, related to him providing drug-assistance to people he was indebted to.”

Mr Gaubert added Abdulkader supports his mother who has mental health issues and he had worked as an estate agent but that ended when he had to return to Somalia with his mother.

Judge Rachael Harrison sentenced Abdulkader to 45 months of custody.

The court previously heard on December 1 that a second defendant Amer Nasr, aged 26, of Buckenham Street, Burngreave, Sheffield, was caught with two lots of cannabis after the police raid at his property on September 24, 2018.

Nasr pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug with intent to supply and he was sentenced to a two-year community order with a Rehabilitation Activity Requrement and a two-month curfew.
