Police release more details on rape of woman in Sheffield park

Detectives disclosed yesterday that a 21-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by four men in High Hazels Park, Darnall, at around 6pm on Monday.

The hunt for the culprits continued last night.

It has emerged that the young woman targeted by the men was walking through the park at the time of the attack.

The rape was reported the following day.

Detectives said they are treating it as an ‘isolated incident’.

Two of the men involved in the attack were Eastern European and between 18 and 20 years old, and the other two were Asian, with one said to have been around 18 but the other young man’s age is not known.

Extra police patrols are being carried out in the wake of the attack in a bid to reassure local residents of their safety.

Detective Inspector Ben Wood said: “I understand that news of this incident is likely to cause distress and concern among the local community and it is obviously of the utmost importance we identify those involved as soon as possible.

“I want to reassure you that we have officers dedicated to progressing this investigation so we can identify these individuals.”

Witnesses or anyone with information about the incident are urged to come forward.

DI Wood said: “Even the slightest bit of information could greatly assist our enquiries.”
