A police investigation into a school bus crash in Sheffield is continuing, with the driver confirmed to have been free from drink and drugs.

A Central Travel bus transporting children to three schools in Sheffield crashed on Handsworth Road, Handsworth, on Wednesday morning.

The bus veered out of control and ploughed into Stay Fresh Barbers at around 7.45am, with 24 children onboard.

A number of children were taken to hospital but none were seriously injured.

South Yorkshire Police said: “Officers were called to Handsworth Road, Sheffield, at 7.45am on Wednesday, January 29 following reports that a school bus collided with a shop.

“Enquiries are ongoing, but it has been confirmed that the driver of the bus, a 58-year-old man, was not impaired by any form of intoxicant.”

Anyone with information about the incident should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident 125 of January 29.
