POLICE want to hear from witnesses to a collision which caused mayhem on the M1 motorway after a lorry burst into flames.
Officers closed the northbound carriageway of the motorway between junctions 36 and 37 - Tankersley and Dodworth - while firefighters extinguished the blaze.
A white DAF LGV apparently swerved to avoid a Mercedes Incident Support Unit vehicle that was parked on the hard shoulder on Tuesday.
Witnesses said they heard a large bang beforehand.
The collision caused the lorry to smash into the nearside crash barrier before careering down the embankment and bursting into flames.
