Police probe into shooting continues as man is arrested for attempted murder of 12-year-old boy

An investigation into the shooting of a 12-year-old boy in Sheffield is continuing today after the arrest of a man on suspicion of attempted murder.

The 30-year-old suspect was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and remains in police custody this morning.

He is being held over a drive-by shooting in which a young boy was injured in Northern Avenue, Arbourthorne, at around 3.45pm on Sunday, January 12.

South Yorkshire Police said the boy was an innocent bystander caught up in a feud between two rival gangs.

He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery for a gunshot wound to his thigh.

There have been a number of shootings in and around Arbourthorne over recent months.

Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101 and quote incident number 516 of January 12.
