Police probe continues into death crash which claimed lives of best friends from Sheffield

A motorist remains under investigation over a crash which claimed the lives of two Sheffield women.

Best friends and colleagues Margaret Collier, aged 59, and Caroline Ball, 63, both of Beighton, died in a head-on crash on the A6135 Station Road, between Eckington and Renishaw, on Wednesday, October 7.

The women, both cleaners, been travelling in a Vauxhall Corsa and were heading towards the M1 to make their way to work in Chesterfield when the collision occurred at about 5.35am that morning.

Their car was involved in a collision with a BMW travelling in the opposite direction.

The two women were pronounced dead at the scene.

A 24-year-old Dronfield man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and later released under investigation as the police probe into the collision continues.

Paying tribute to his wife and her best friend, Raymond Collier said Margaret and Caroline were so close they were ‘like sisters’.
