ARMED raiders carrying a knife and a hammer held up a bookmaker’s shop and escaped with £350 in cash.

The men struck at William Hill on Ox Close Avenue, Kimberworth Park, Rotherham, where they threatened staff with violence.

One raider, an Asian youth thought to be in his late teens, wore a balaclava style hat covering part of his face and carried a machete style knife.

He demanded the two cashiers on duty fill his carrier bag with money.

The second - a white youth in his mid-late teens - wore a woolly hat and a bandana covering his face, and stood guard at the doorway while his accomplice gathered the cash.

Det Con Rachel Morton said: “Thankfully no-one was hurt and there were no customers inside at the time of the incident.

“We are currently review-ing CCTV footage. I would appeal for anyone with information about this incident to contact the police or Crimestoppers straightaway.”

Anyone with information about the raid at 9.20pm on Saturday, should call DC Rachel Morton in Rotherham CID on 0114 220 2020 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
