Police plan park patrols

POLICE in Barnsley are to patrol playing fields following complaints from residents about under-age drinking and the amount of litter left behind.

The issue has been identified as a policing priority for the Wombwell and Darfield Safer Neighbourhood Team for the next three months.

Problems at the fields in Lundhill were declared a priority three months ago but officers said they were still getting complaints about groups of youths gathering there.

Most of the problems were taking place between 5pm and 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, a spokesman for South Yorkshire Police said.
