Police 'open minded' over possible links between four shootings on Sheffield estate

A gun was fired on Villiers Close, Arbourthorne, on Tuesday night – less than two weeks after three shootings on the same city estate in a 30-minute crime spree.

There were no reported injuries after Tuesday’s incident and no arrests have yet been made.

South Yorkshire Police said enquiries into the shooting are ‘ongoing’ and officers ‘are keeping an open mind’ over possible links with the three shootings last month.

On Tuesday, November 19, police received reports of shots fired at an address on Errington Avenue.

Officers attended the scene and found evidence of a shotgun discharge.

Eighteen minutes later police received reports of further shots fired at an address on Eastern Avenue.

When police arrived, they discovered damage to a window consistent with shotgun discharge.

At 6.48pm that night, there were reports of shots fired from a vehicle on Errington Way.

Minutes later a 35-year-old man attended the Northern General Hospital with a shotgun injury to his leg.

Additional police patrols were mounted in the wake of the shootings and there were extra officers in the area yesterday.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said yesterday: “The road remains closed and there is a significant police presence in the area.

“Enquiries are under way to establish the circumstances of the incident and our neighbourhood officers are carrying out additional patrols as reassurance for local people.”

But residents in the area said they were not concerned about safety.

One young dad said: “We like to keep ourselves to ourselves.”

Others said they had not heard any gunshots on Tuesday nights.
