Police officers will no longer be based in Penistone from next Spring.

Instead they will work from Barnsley town centre and Wombwell, but police chiefs stress that Police Community Support Officers will still be in the town.

Barnsley’s District Commander, Liz Watson, said: “South Yorkshire Police will be introducing a new local policing model from Spring in which communities will continue to have highly visible, dedicated police officers supported by locally-based PCSOs.

“The force is combining its response and safer neighbourhood police into multi-skilled local policing teams with responsibility to solve community problems and manage local demand.

“Barnsley’s local policing team police officers will operate from existing bases at Wombwell and Churchfields but will have named officers for each geographical area on duty 24 hours a day, seven

days a week.”
