A MAN is in custody today after a three hour stand-off with officers at a house in north Derbyshire.

The 47-year-old was arrested at a property on Chesterfield Road, Eckington, where he allegedly forced entry and holed himself up when police arrived.

Officers were called to the property by the owner of the house, a woman, who arrived home from work at around 7.40pm last night to find that a window and door had been damaged.

When officers arrived the man inside the house refused to leave and threatened to harm himself.

Specialist negotiators were called to the scene and talked to the man for around three hours and eventually persuaded him to leave.

He was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

Police cordoned off the road while they dealt with the incident.
