Caravan owners in Derbyshire are being urged to step up their security following a spate of thefts.

Between August and October 17 caravans were stolen, many from storage facilities on farms.

Detective Constable Paul Hackett said: “As the caravanning season has now come to an end we are reminding people who own touring caravans to ensure that they are properly secured and that steps are taken to help to prevent thefts.

“It is important to make sure that you do all that you can to protect the security of your caravan, which after all for many is a substantial investment.”
