South Yorkshire Police said, based on CCTV footage, a group of five males have been wandering the street in the Stocksbridge, Deepcar and Oughtibridge areas, trying car door and house doors.

PC Paraskeva from Deepcar Neighbourhood Policing Team said the police have been visiting people who have reported incidents to them, and completing door-to-door enquiries collecting CCTV footage as part of their investigation to identify those responsible.

It is believed that their intention is to steal cars, and that they are using a hook on a pole and pushing it through letter boxes to get the keys.

PC Paraskeva from Deepcar Neighbourhood Policing Team said: "Can we ask that residents are extra vigilant, and ensure all windows and doors are locked/secure (house and cars), keep car keys away from view of the letterbox.“Report any suspicious activity to SYP via 101 or online. In emergency (crime in action) call 999.

"Doorbell cameras and CCTV have proved invaluable in capturing suspicious activity.
