Police issue update on man arrested at Meadowhall after attempted jewellery theft

A man remains in custody today over an attempted jewellery theft on a Meadowhall car park.

An off-duty police officer was on the orange car park just before 3pm on Saturday when he stepped in after two men on a stolen moped attempted to steal jewellery from a member of the public.

South Yorkshire Police said that when challenged, the two men‘became aggressive’ and were ‘involved in an altercation with the officer and several members of the public’.

One man in his 20s was detained.
