Police issue statement on Sheffield shooting as neighbours left ‘shocked but not surprised’

Police were called to Myrtle Road around 8.30pm yesterday after residents heard shots being fired at a house and a parked car.
The area has been cordoned off, and officers have remained at the scene since the incident, where they were joined by a crime scene investigation van.

Hide AdSouth Yorkshire Police said: “An investigation has been launched after gunshots were reportedly fired in the Heeley area of Sheffield last night (25 May).
“Police were called to Heeley Green shortly before 8.30pm after reports of a firearms discharge.
“We have no reports of anyone being injured during the incident.
“There will be an increased police presence in the area today as enquiries continue”

Hide AdOne witness, who lives on Myrtle Road, said: “A dirt bike went past on the pavement and there was a really loud bang, which I assumed came from the bike’s engine.
“I was just going out to enjoy the sunset when the armed police pulled up and cordoned off the road outside my house.
“I think there were four with guns and several others without, and two or three police cars at different times.”
Ambulances were not at the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Hide AdThe eyewitness added that the residents in the area were “shocked but not surprised” about the incident.
This is the second incident where shots have been fired in Heeley this month.
On May 14 shots were fired at around 10pm, prompting a police investigation.
