He forced his way inside with another man and the pair struck the woman over her head with batons as she battled to prevent them getting any further into her home.

The men, who struck at 3.55pm on Tuesday, January 5, then left empty-handed.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: “Police are investigating after reports of an aggravated burglary in the Handsworth Road area of Sheffield.

“Just before 4pm, it is reported that two unknown suspects knocked at the door of a property on Handsworth Road and then forced entry when the occupant, a woman in her 40s, opened the door.

“It is reported that the suspects assaulted the occupant and, following a brief struggle, left the scene.” Call 101 and quote incident 564 of January 5.
