Police in Chesterfield are urging residents to step up their security following a spate of burglaries.

Since January 31, six homes and three outbuildings have been targeted in Sycamore Avenue, Farnsworth Street, Charles Street, Broadgorse, Sitwell Avenue, Old Road, Didcot Close and Queens Park.

PCSO Kirsty Handby of the Holmebrook and Rother Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We are finding for the most part in these reports that the rear windows of the properties have been damaged in order to gain entry.

“Six of the properties were targeted in daylight hours or early evening.

“We encourage residents to remain vigilant, ensure that windows and doors are secure and locked and items such as iPads, cash and handbags are kept out of view.”
