Police have issued a warning about charitable publication scams following a bogus call to a nursery in Chesterfield.

Charitable publication scams involve businesses or residents receiving a phone call from a telesales agent trying to sell advertising space in a bogus publication.

The caller will often claim the leaflet is being published in connection with local charities, the emergency services, crime prevention, community projects or health initiatives.

Police are warning people not to fall for the scam after St Barnabas Nursery in Danesmoor, Chesterfield, received a call from someone trying to sell space in a bogus ‘crime prevention booklet’ on Tuesday.

Sgt Aidan Stones said: “Should you receive a call like this, please don’t be fooled. Report the information to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.”
