“There are various steering wheel locks that can be purchased that will deter thieves from breaking into your car and also prevent them from taking the wheel.

“Please be aware of people who may look suspicious, looking up drives and checking cars out.”

It has been reported that some ‘high performance’ BMW steering wheels can sell for as much as £1,500 online, with BMWs elsewhere in the country also being targeted.

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
