Police issue advice after thieves begin targeting BMWs for their steering wheels in Sheffield
Thieves are targeting BMWs for their steering wheels, police in Sheffield have warned.
Officers said crooks had broken into three vehicles on the same morning and stolen the steering wheels.
Those thefts all took place in Stannington, on Red Oak Lane, Golden Oak Dell and Robin Hood Chase, during the early hours of Sunday, February 2.
PCSO Thomas Spenceley said: “These appear to be targeted attacks, specifically attacking BMW vehicles.
“There are various steering wheel locks that can be purchased that will deter thieves from breaking into your car and also prevent them from taking the wheel.
“Please be aware of people who may look suspicious, looking up drives and checking cars out.”
It has been reported that some ‘high performance’ BMW steering wheels can sell for as much as £1,500 online, with BMWs elsewhere in the country also being targeted.
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
