Police investigation launched following ‘drug concerns’ at Sheffield Park Academy

The allegations have been raised by a ‘very concerned and angry parent’ who forwarded a letter to The Star detailing their concerns.

In the anonymous letter they said: “I have always promoted Park Academy as a brilliant academy for children who want to learn and make something of themselves.

“However, having heard several stories from parents, I have no changed my view and I will now advise parents not to choose Park Academy for their children.”

“My child came home recently and told me some pupils at Park Academy were selling drugs to other pupils on the academy premises. My child also told me some teachers were are of this but chose not to take any action."

The letter, which was first sent to Park Academy principal Debbie McShane, was also forwarded to South Yorkshire Police and the United Learning Trust, which governs the secondary school in Beaumont Road North.

In a statement, Sheffield Park Academy, said: “Drugs are a problem in every community and, whenever there is any concern that students may be involved in drug taking or drug dealing, the school works closely with the police.

“This has resulted in students in the past being temporarily or permanently excluded. Like any good school, Sheffield Park maintains a high vigilance on this subject and will always act and investigate any evidence provided to it.”

Sheffield East Neighbourhood Inspector Dave Struggles said: “Our officers are investigating reports of drug concerns in Park Academy following information we have received from a parent.

“We take all reported information given to us seriously and work closely with schools to tackle problems.

“Within Park Academy we have dedicated Children and Young Person’s Officers who focus on crime prevention, education and safeguarding at the school.
