Police investigate racially aggravated public order offence after Royal Mail attack in Sheffield

South Yorkshire Police have confirmed they are investigating a racially aggravated public order offence following an attack on a Royal Mail postal van in Sheffield which caused more than £400 worth of damage.

Royal Mail has suspended deliveries to Cradock Mews, Norfolk Park after the incident, which police said is also the subject of a criminal damage investigation.

The company said the risk in delivering to the area is “unacceptably high due to the threat of further customer abuse.”

It said a health and safety risk assessment must be completed before deliveries are resumed. In the meantime, residents at Cradock Mews – a supported living facility – have to collect their post from the Royal Mail sorting office on Pond Street.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson told The Star: “An investigation into reports of criminal damage of a post van and a racially aggravated public order offence are ongoing.

“Enquiries continue.”
