Officers have been investigating the incident, around Rectory Road, but say they have found nothing to show that a gun was fired.

Killamarsh is just over the border between Sheffield and Derbyshire, close to Mosborough.

Police said in a statement: “We received a call about a series of loud bangs heard in the Rectory Road area of Killamarsh at just after 2am this morning (Sunday 26 July).

“Officers attended to conduct a search of the area and also made door to door enquiries. However, no evidence of a firearms discharge was found.

“We understand incidents of this nature may cause concern for residents and patrols have been stepped up in the area for community reassurance.”
