Police area hunting vandals who hurled a concrete slab at a car parked in Sheffield - smashing the windscreen.

The Vauxhall Corsa was parked on Manor Fields car park, off City Road, when it was attacked on Sunday.

Officers alerted to the vandalism tracked down the owner to inform him.

The disgruntled motorist said: “I had just finished work and had driven back home. A few minutes after getting back we got a knock on the door from a policeman telling us our car had been attacked.

“He said a neighbour had reported a group of kids hanging around our car and a couple of others that were also parked there. He said it appeared a concrete slab of some kind had been used to hit the windscreen and the group had been seen running away into the park.

“The police went out looking for them and were really good but as far as I know nobody was caught.

“The damage is pretty extensive and it is frustrating that people could do this for absolutely no reason.

“It is just mindless vandalism. It is unlikely those responsible will be caught and who knows how many other cars in the area will get attacked in this way?

“It is probably going to cost hundreds of pounds to get a new windscreen and the time and inconvenience is a real hassle. I just hope these kids think about how they would feel if somebody attacked something they owned in this way.”

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
