POLICE in Sheffield have dispelled rumours that a child was sexually assaulted in an attempted abduction in the city.
The county’s police force has confirmed officers were alerted to a ‘suspicious incident’ on West Street, Beighton, where a man in a dark grey BMW car pulled up opposite an eight-year-old child and drove off as the youngster’s mum approached.
But the force claims the driver did not attempt to speak to the child and said there was no physical contact.
Inspector Jason Booth said: “I want to reassure parents and members of the community, that at this time, the police are treating this as a suspicious incident, contrary to rumours that the child was subjected to a serious sexual assault. This is not true.”
The driver was white and aged in his mid to late 20s.
