Police hunt city ‘cat’ burglar

Have your say

A HOUSE was broken into in Sheffield after the occupant left the door open so their cat could get in and out.

Police said a handbag and jewellery were taken from the property in Grindlow Close, Gleadless Valley.

Inspector Ian Stubbs, of the Woodseats and Gleadless Valley Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “A significant number of burglaries that occur locally are opportunistic where residents leave windows and doors unlocked.

“I would also discourage people from leaving keys in door locks.

“I have noticed often entry is gained by forcing a window and then opening the door using the keys conveniently left in the lock.”

He added: “Please make life difficult for criminals, that way you are much less likely to become a victim.”

Anyone with information about the break-in at 3.15am last Saturday should call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202020.
