Police hunt bike-riding mugger who tried to steal woman's handbag

Officers have appealed for witnesses after a man tried to snatch a woman's handbag, leaving her injured.

The 42-year-old was walking along a footpath in the Flanderwell area of Rotherham at about 2.15pm on Tuesday when she was targeted .

A man riding a dark coloured mountain bike approached her as she was nearing Constable Close, trying and failing to steal her handbag.

The woman was left with bruising to her arm as a result of the incident.

The man is described as white, in his mid-twenties, of medium build and about 5ft 8ins tall. He is said to have been wearing a grey deerstalker hat and dark coloured clothing.

Call 101 quoting incident 588 of May 2 with information.
