Officers from South Yorkshire Police’s Walkley and Hillsborough neighbourhood policing teams spotted the man’s dodgy driving on Upperthorpe Road, near to the Ponderosa Park, on Tuesday.

A spokesperson said: “Unsurprisingly, as well as being impaired through drug use, he was also carrying around £200 of ‘medicine’ that was less than legal and is now in our property store.”

Officers also stopped another driver thought to be over the drink-drive limit, and seized another car from its owner following his “antisocial and dangerous speed and lack of control.”

Inspector Smith from the force said: “The restrictions on leaving your house may have reduced, but the restrictions on not driving like a moron, while off your swede on goof balls, or after a couple of pints of beer, remain very much in force.

“The road isn't so clear that it is your private race track, nor is traffic so light you can bumper car around it while pickling your brain in the intoxicant of your choice.”

Police have dealt with numerous incidents of motorists behaving in an antisocial manner on the roads during lockdown, with many cars, off-road bikes and quad bikes seized by officers. South Yorkshire Police has more than doubled the size of its off-road team to try and tackle the problem.

Mr Smith thanked those who are continuing to behave “in a sensible manner, social distancing and being responsible.”
